IT seems like the response has been positive to this year’s Borneo Jazz 2012. Great stuff
If you haven’t gotten your tickets for the event from May 11-12 at ParkCity Everly Hotel in Miri, then hurry!
Don’t miss out because this year there will also be a unique a cappella group from Germany known as SLIXS (formerly known as Stouxingers).
They are pretty slick alright. Check out one of their performances here.
It really takes amazing vocal control to be able to perform something a capella and not have it sound like the piece is missing instruments for accompaniment!
They sound awesome and they are really amusing and entertaining too.
If SLIXS is anything to go by, then I am sure the other acts are great too.
Other groups scheduled to perform are F.V.E from Kuala Lumpur, Koh Mr Saxman & Takeshi Band (Thailand), New Cool Collective (Netherlands), Nita Aartsen (Indonesia), Schalk Jouberts Three Continents Sextet (South Africa/Norway/Sweden/US), Tangora (Afro-Caribbean/France) and Tropic Green (Singapore).
There are biographies of all the performers at the Borneo Jazz site.
You can also get details on the tickets available and do your bookings online.
Last year, there was a crowd of 6,000 and they are expecting around 8,000 this year. So be sure to get your tickets early.
The Star’s report:
Good response to annual jazz festival
MIRI: Response to the Borneo Jazz 2012 which will be held at PakCity Everly Hotel here on May 11-12 has been good with most bookings done online.
Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) director of Corporate Communication Angelina Bateman said yesterday that the two-day event was expected to attract a crowd of 8,000.
“We had about 6,000 people during the festival last year,” she said.
A random survey at hotels and restaurants here showed the good ticket sales have yet to be translated into room bookings and restaurant reservations.
According to a hotel near the festival site, there were plenty of enquiries on rooms but the bookings have yet to be confirmed.
Angelina said a capella group – SLIXs – has been invited to jazz up this year’s event.
SLIXS, formerly known as Stouxingers comprise six vocal virtuosos from Germany.
Other groups expected at the festival included home grown band F.V.E from Kuala Lumpur, Koh Mr Saxman & Takeshi Band (Thailand), New Cool Collective
(Netherlands), Nita Aartsen (Indonesia), Schalk Jouberts Three Continents Sextet (South Africa/Norway/Sweden/US), Tangora (Afro-Caribbean/France) and Tropic Green (Singapore).
