PKR to stand in just 10 seats in Sarawak?

WELL it sounds like Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has had to admit defeat and accept the demands of the opposition coalition of convenience Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR’s) top dog in Sarawak — the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

PKR State Liaison Chief Baru Bian has announced in the media that the party will stand in 10 constituencies during the upcoming parliamentary election.

Although seat negotiations between the PR components began last September, nearly seven months later they still have not come to an actual agreement.

See PKR had previously indicated that it wanted to contest up to 15 seats.

Now they are down to just 10?

Guess the DAP has insisted that it has the “right” to most of the seats. The party has previously indicated it wants 15 seats, as well, but “kindly” scaled that down to up to 14 recently.

Although DAP Sarawak secretary Chong Chieng Jen told the media in Sarawak that he did not wish to reveal the number of seats the party would contest in — claiming ongoing negotiations within PR — state chief Wong Ho Leng already announced to the media in Malaya that they would contest in 12 to 14 seats.

The different tune being sung to the Malaya and Sarawak media is another story for another day!

Now let’s just concentrate on divvying up the parliamentary seats in Sarawak among the opposition.

It so happens that the other partner in this coalition of convenience, Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), has finally decided that it wants to flex its muscles too.

Hey PKR and DAP have been having negotiations without PAS, claiming the latter is happy with just a seat or two.

Now PAS has said, hey, we actually want to contest in six or seven seats!

Let’s see … 14 seats for DAP … seven seats for PAS …that leaves a grand total of nine seats for PKR. So much for 10 seats!

They are all lusting for power in Putrajaya and are intent on using Sarawak and Sabah to get there.

Well I wonder who will win the PR showdown for seats? Usually its the top dog …

The report from Utusan Borneo:

Kerusi Ba’Kelalan disandang oleh Baru manakala Ali Biju (Krian) dan See Chee How (Batu Lintang).
