Sarawak Tourism Board wins gold international travel award

THE Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has done the State proud by winning the gold prize at the Das Goldene Stadttor (Golden City Gate) Award at International Tourism Bourse (ITB) Berlin travel show in Germany.

STB won the award for its ‘Where Adventure Lives’ print campaign.

The award honours the best creative campaign of the global tourism industry every year.

Yup, Sarawak’s campaign was judged the best in the world!

It was conceptualised and created by Integrated Strategic Communications — STB’s creative agency.

The second prize went to India’s ‘Your moment is waiting’ campaign.

Das Goldene Stadttor international film and media competition is considered to be the “Oscars” of the international travel and tourism industry.

All competing entries were shown on a big screen during the trade fair at the ITB Cinema and were judged by an international jury consisting of some 40 representatives from international and national tourism associations as well as tour operators, economic experts, service suppliers, and political officials.

STB chief executive officer Datuk Rashid Khan called the win a clear endorsement to the board’s efforts to further promote the State in the global tourism arena.

“Last year STB launched its re-imaging campaign in an intense drive to attract travellers from its target markets to experience adventure in Sarawak and the award clearly reiterates that our efforts are right on track,” he said in a statement.

“We are extremely happy to top the list and make a mark with our print campaign.”

Last year, Sarawak recorded a total of 3.28 million tourists — a 16 per cent increase in arrivals compared to the previous year.

“This is the highest arrivals we have seen so far in years and foreign arrivals alone grew by 23 per cent,” added Datuk Rashid.

Good job. Perhaps the campaign is part of the reason we’ve seen so many Western tourists in Kuching recently.

This is a good sign for the eateries, hotels, souvenir shops and other businesses in the city centre in particular.

Well done to the State’s tourism industry. Keep up the good work.
