Zee Avi to perform in Kuching

ZEE Avi is coming home to Sarawak to perform at Dewan Sri Undangan, Petra Jaya on Nov 26 at 7pm. This is the former Dewan Undangan Negeri building.

Tickets are priced at RM78 (pre-sale), RM98 at the door and RM 158 – premier.

How very exciting. The Anugerah Ikon Belia winner has indeed done well for herself globally under Jack Johnson’s Bushfire Records and it is good that she will be back to perform in our State.

She’s been a busy girl performing across the US, as well as in KL, Penang, Singapore and Indonesia. After the Kuching show, she’ll be back in the US to perform at the KCRW Eclectic Holiday Show at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.

And she recently released her new album ‘Ghostbird’, the follow-up to her 2009 eponymous debut.

What I love about the new album is that there is a track called ‘Siboh Kitak Nanggis’. Awesome that she has decided to include Bahasa Sarawak in her international album! Many local artistes who release albums locally don’t even do that!

She’s definitely not one of those who easily forgets where she comes from once success has been achieved.

In a report from the New Straits Times, she is also quoted as saying that she tries to return to Sarawak whenever she can to be with her family.

“In the mean time, I try to come back as often as I can, to see my family in Sarawak but the long journey can be a little taxing for me.

“But I will definitely come back one day, especially so if I am blessed enough to have kids. I would love that they be raised here where green grass is aplenty, instead of concrete,” she said.

Zee Avi definitely deserves the Sarawak youth icon award. Can’t wait to get tickets for the show. Let’s give her all the support she deserves.

A report from the New Straits Times:

New York based artiste Zee Avi misses home

PETALING JAYA: Local YouTube sensation Zee Avi hopes to one day return to her homeland for good.

The 25-year-old singer/songwriter, who launched her musical career and is currently making waves in the global music scene with a lot of boost from the powerful tool of the social network site, admitted that she missed her family a lot.

Since her singing career took off a couple of years ago, she has been living in New York.

“In the mean time, I try to come back as often as I can, to see my family in Sarawak but the long journey can be a little taxing for me.

“But I will definitely come back one day, especially so if I am blessed enough to have kids. I would love that they be raised here where green grass is aplenty, instead of concrete,” she told the Press yesterday.

Zee Avi, whose real name is Izyan Alirahman, is in town to perform at an exclusive town three-date national tour especially for her die-hard fans.

Known for her melodic, melancholy songs tinged with irrepressible optimism with hits like  Kantoi and Bitter Heart, she will kick off the tour with a concert at KL Live in Kuala Lumpur tonight,  followed by Penang (Nov 19) and Kuching’s Damai Central in Damai Beach, Sarawak (Nov 26).

The series of concerts dubbed Zee Avi Homecoming Tour 2011 is organised by Livescape Asia. It is also held to promote her recently released sophomore album, Ghostbird, which showcases her maturity in music.

This marks her second concert here after the first one, also held at the same venue, last year.

“I am really excited to meet and perform for my local fans. They always know how to make me feel welcomed.

Her 90-minute repertoire will see her performing all the tracks from both her records, plus several cover songs.

“You’ll see me injecting Sarawak elements in my show. Audience will be in for a surprise!,” she exclaimed, refusing to divulge further details.

Zee who plays the guitar and ukulele, arrived in Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday after performing in Bali, Indonesia, Taiwan, Seoul, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan.

In the two years since her self-titled debut was joint-released on Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records and Ian Montone’s Monotone Label, her very free spirit has wandered from major music festivals to huge tours in the US, back to her homeland of Sarawak, where she picked up an International Youth Icon Award.

She is also hopeful that in the near future she would able to collaborate with recent Anugerah Industri Muzik’s big winners Yunalis Zarai and Najwa Mahiaddin.

“If the opportunity comes, I’d love to work with them. And I am also going to throw in Aizat (Amdan) in that mix as well. He is one of my current favourite from the local music scene,” she added.

Zee Avi Homecoming Tour 2011 will also feature multi-talented artiste, Narmi, who is also the drummer of leading local rock band, One Buck Short. His grasp for catchy melodies and his unique voice has enabled him to gain a steady following in the singer-songwriter circuit.

And something from ANTARA News:

“Apa kabar Bali?

  1. I’ve got a Jack Johnson CD. And Jack Johnson’s got a Sarawakian artiste in his label. How sweet the sound…
