I am a Parochial Sarawakian

THE Oxford Dictionary defines parochial as “having a limited or narrow outlook or scope”. That’s fine with me because I just want to write about things from a Sarawakian perspective.

Trawling the web I have found that there aren’t that many voices from this the largest state in Malaysia. Not on issues that matter to me anyway.

Why does this matter? Well, Sarawakians have always been different.

We had three white Rajahs …

We were only officially under British rule from  July 1, 1946 until July 22, 1963 — just over 17 years …

We were an independent nation from July 22, 1963 until September 16, 1963, when we FORMED Malaysia together with Sabah, Singapore and Malaya.

Naturally we have our own way of seeing the world and this blog hopes to be able to share an unashamedly Sarawakian perspective.

  1. Parochial in name and parochial in nature. Looking forward to reading more.
